Renewable Energy Project Finance Manager

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: 


Job Description

The opportunity is tailored to individuals who combine a strong commercial background, a high degree of result orientation with suitable experience in the wind- and solar energy field. The successful candidate will work on finance-related aspects of renewable energy projects in SWEB Development USA, LLC’s (SWEB) project portfolio in Canada and the US. As such, the candidate will work closely with SWEB’s project development managers and technical & legal experts. The position directly reports to the CFO of SWEB. 


Tasks


Financial Modelling

  • Develop, maintain and adapt complex financial models for wind and solar projects in line with project needs and in accordance with modelling best practices.
  • Perform scenario and / or Monte-Carlo analysis in financial models to support corporate decision making.
  • Document model assumptions and identify risks from first project idea throughout the construction phase of a project. 
  • Perform internal model audits, report on logical consistency / arithmetical accuracy and provide corrections / modelling improvements as necessary.


Project Finance Transactions

  • Preparation of reports and documentation, including financing teasers, slide decks, and technical memoranda.
  • Negotiation of term sheets and transaction documents for senior debt and tax equity investment. 
  • Manage due diligence processes and data rooms, and act as a primary point of contact.
  • Take ownership of transaction progress and report to senior management.


In-house Development Support

  • Evaluate new project opportunities and present recommendations together with the Development Manager.
  • Review state policy, legislation, compliance filings & research, understand, and document industry activity and commodity pricing through benchmarking and competition analysis.
  • Support in creation & tracking of project specific development budgets.
  • Closely collaborate with development and engineering teams to identify project finance needs & help out with financial questions throughout project development. 


Proactive Outreach

  • Identify new sources of debt funding to optimize SWEB’s financing costs.
  • Establish relationships with equity investors as SWEB’s pipeline requires.
  • Build and maintain a network of contacts in the industry and attend industry events.
  • Keep up to date on trends in the renewable energy sector in general as well as renewable energy project finance in particular.


Qualifications

Experience

  • Min. 3 years of relevant work experience in the field of finance / project finance.
  • Experience with tax equity investments for renewable projects.
  • Wind and/or solar energy industry experience in the US and/or internationally.


Skills

  • Excellent financial modelling skills in MS Excel (incl. at least a basic understanding of VBA).
  • Ability to precisely dissect complex agreements (financing contracts, power purchase contracts, etc.) and come up with / draft improvement ideas.
  • Self-organized team-player with a detail-oriented way of working & entrepreneurial mindset.


Education

  • Solid knowledge of financial markets & the renewable energy sector.
  • University degree (master’s degree or other certifications such as CFA will be looked upon favorably)
  • Valid driver’s license.

Renewable Energy Project Developer

Job Description

This is a results-oriented role that would suit a highly motivated individual with experience in renewable energy development. The successful candidate will lead many aspects of the early-stage and late-stage development of solar energy projects. The Project Developer will work with SWEB Development’s (SWEB) team members with expertise in renewable energy policy and incentives, real estate, GIS, legal, design, permitting, site preparation, finance and construction. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and support other renewable energy project work within a team environment.


Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced with technical components of solar energy development including project siting, site design, interconnection feasibility analysis, and securing offtake through traditional PPAs, VPPAs, and C&I buyers.
  • Manage early-stage and late-stage project development activity up to COD for any projects under his / her purview. Much of the development activity is done in partnership with other groups within SWEB, e.g.: project design and engineering, construction, finance, legal and marketing.
  • Identify strategic points of interconnection on the grid based on available capacity, and manage interconnection requests with various ISOs and RTOs.
  • Assist construction team as necessary to bring projects into operation.
  • Select, manage, and direct third party consultants and review their reports.
  • Familiar with project management procedures, including project scheduling, budgeting and financial modelling.
  • Understand and work within local and state legislation, regulations, and policies specific to solar energy development and operation.
  • Familiar with project management procedures, including project scheduling, budgeting and financial modelling.
  • Comfortable with community outreach, public presentations, contract negotiation, and communications across a spectrum of outside partners (landowners, local and state government representatives, community members, suppliers, etc.) for successful development of solar energy projects.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills, strong attention to detail, extremely organized and able to manage a myriad of competing priorities.
  • Creative, solid sense of humor, high energy, responds well to pressure, works to deadlines, and has the ability to work independently on own initiative, as well as with a team.
  • Experience with MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, ETAP, PVSyst, Helioscope, Wind Pro or other simulation professional and design software would be an asset.
  • Experience with wind energy development and / or energy storage is beneficial.

  • Previous work experience in the renewable energy sector, or related development field.
  • Master’s Degree or Professional Certification will be looked upon favourably.
  • The ability to execute complex assignments with a high degree of initiative, quality, professionalism, and timeliness.
  • Valid driver’s license.


Details

  • Full time employment with an international renewable energy developer and operator (8 countries on two continents).
  • Compensation to be determined based on experience.
  • Location: New York State is preferred, but other locations in New England will be considered. You may work from our office in Natick, MA, remotely, or semi-remotely.
  • The position will be primarily based in the field, with a balance of travelling to project sites and office work, as well as occasional travel to Canada and Europe if necessary.
  • Reports to the CEO
  • Start date: TBD. ASAP is preferred.
